Bougainvillea in Paros Island, Best Greek island

Ultimate Paros Travel Guide – Best Villages, Beaches and Where to Stay (2025)

Island hopping through the Cyclades has always been a dream of mine, and when I finally sat down to plan this trip last year, I wanted to take my time and fully enjoy each destination rather than rushing from one island to the next. With this in mind, I decided to focus on two islands in the one week I had.

Among the Cyclades, only Santorini and Mykonos have direct flights from major European cities, making Santorini an obvious choice—it’s been at the top of my bucket list for years (read my Santorini guide here). Choosing the second island, however, required more thought. There were many strong contenders, including Naxos and Milos, but after doing hours of research, Paros stood out as the ideal complement to Santorini. Known for its pristine beaches, picturesque villages draped in bougainvillea, and its relaxed, authentic charm, Paros promised the perfect mix of beauty and tranquility.

In this comprehensive Paros travel guide, I’ll take you through the best of Paros—from the must-see villages to the top dining spots, dreamy accommodations, and Instagram-worthy photo locations. You’ll also find practical tips on getting to the island, and a sample Paros itinerary to make the most of your time here.

BEST TIME TO VISIT PAROS:

The best time to visit Paros is from late May to early October when the island enjoys warm weather, sunny skies, and perfect conditions for beach days and exploring charming villages. June and September are particularly ideal, offering pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and lower accommodation prices compared to the peak summer months of July and August.

HOW MANY DAYS IN PAROS?

To fully experience Paros, plan to spend 3 to 5 days on the island. In three days, you can explore the highlights, including the charming villages of Naoussa and Parikia, relax on popular beaches like Kolymbithres or Golden Beach, and enjoy authentic Greek cuisine at local tavernas. With five days, you’ll have more time to venture to smaller villages like Lefkes, take a boat tour to nearby Antiparos, or soak in the vibrant nightlife.

Paros is perfect for a laid-back itinerary, allowing you to balance sightseeing and relaxation. I spent 4 days on the island but wish we would have done 5, as we didn’t have time to fit in a day trip to Antiparos.

There are so many friendly cats in Paros!

HOW TO GET TO PAROS:

✈️ By Plane:

Paros has a small airport (PAS) that only serves flights to and from Athens. There are only two airlines that operate flights to Paros which are Aegean and Sky Express. These short 45 minute flights do fill up quickly as the planes are small, so make sure to look ahead to book the best available times.

⛴️ By Ferry

You can also get to Paros from Athens or from another Cycladic island by a ferry. From Athens (Piraeus or Rafina ports) it takes 3-5 hours depending on the service (high-speed vs. regular). I used ferryhopper to find ferry tickets from Santorini to Paros. The regular Blue Star ferry takes about 3.5 hours, and high-speed ferries will take around 2 hours.

HOW TO GET AROUND IN PAROS:

The easiest and most convenient way to get around Paros is by renting a car. A rental car gives you the freedom to explore the island’s stunning beaches, like Golden Beach and Kolymbithres, and charming villages, such as Naoussa and Lefkes, at your own pace. Since Paros has hilly terrain and narrow streets, a smaller car is recommended for easier driving and parking. Be sure to bring an International Driver’s License, as it’s required for renting and driving on the island. With a car, you can uncover the best of Paros, from hidden coves to quaint local spots.

Rental Cars:  Book with Discover Cars for the best prices – I always choose a trusted company like Hertz, Enterprise, or Sixt within the search results.

The island does have a pretty reliable bus system that connects most of the major towns and villages, but you will be somewhat limited as you try to adhere to the bus schedule. Timetables and routes can be found here. Bus rides are 1.80 to 2.50 euros per ride.

While there are taxis, they are pretty expensive.

WHERE TO STAY IN PAROS:

My favorite place to stay on the island is in the picturesque town of Naoussa. Parikia is also a good option as it is close to the port, well connected by bus to other parts of the island, and more affordable than Naoussa. Both Naoussa and Parikia have tons of dining options and bars. If you are looking for a quieter, luxurious and romantic atmosphere, I’ve included some other options below as well.

My choice: Aura Suites Paros

There’s a reason this place has 9.8 on Booking.com and 5.0 rating on Google! The daily breakfast by Chef Niko is incredible, and the staff were absolutely the most friendliest people I’ve ever met. The rooms are pristine clean, and the views of Naoussa town from the pool was just amazing.

BEST BEACHES IN PAROS:

Kolymbithres Beach

Kolymbithres Beach is one of Paros’ most iconic spots, and the most unique beaches I’ve ever visited. The striking granite rock formations along the shore create natural coves around the shore, and serve as stunning photo backdrop. This was my favorite beach to swim in as the water was clear, shallow, and calm.

You can lay out on the rocks (some are flat and smooth), find a spot for your towel on the sandy beaches, or rent beach chairs. In August, 2 chairs + umbrella was 40 euros.

There is a direct bus and a water taxi that takes you to this beach from Naoussa.

Bus – Takes about 10 minutes. Departure times change based on season, and the exact times can always be found here. In August it was operating 4 times a day, departing at 10:30, 13:40, 15:00, 17:30. Fares are 2-3.5 euros one way and can be paid in cash to the driver.

Water taxi – depart every hour on the hour from Naoussa port. 10 euros. You can pay in cash or credit card at the kiosk, and it’s round trip. Make sure to pay attention to the return times since if you miss a boat, you’ll have to wait another hour.

Golden Beach (Chrissi Akti)

Golden Beach, or Chrissi Akti, is a long stretch of fine golden sand on the southeastern coast of Paros with clear, shallow waters, perfect for families and water sports enthusiasts. This beach is particularly renowned as a windsurfing hotspot, hosting international competitions annually. With plenty of facilities, including sun beds, restaurants, beach bars and water sports rentals, it’s a great spot to spend the whole day.

Santa Maria Beach

Another beach with calm waters and a lively atmosphere. You can see the neighboring island of Naxos from here. There’s a large beach club, and amenities including plenty of beach chairs and bars.

Monastiri Beach

A secluded beach close to Kolymbithres Beach, located across the bay from Naoussa. Almost the entire beach is occupied by Monastiri Beach Club, which also has a very Instagrammable restaurant. Visit the Monastery of St. John’s of Deti, a beautiful blue-domed church just next to the beach.

Kalogeros Beach

Known for its unique therapeutic mud, this narrow beach has crystal-clear waters and clay rocks. No sunbeds or facilities here.

TOWNS AND VILLAGES TO VISIT IN PAROS:

One of my favorite things to do is exploring charming, small villages and towns. Paros has so many, and although easier with a car, these can be visited from Naoussa or Parikia by buses.

Parikia

Parikia is the capital and main port of Paros. This is the cultural and commercial hub of the island, and nestled on a small hill overlooking the port of Paros. Iconic landmarks to see include Panagia Ekatontapiliani (Church of 100 Doors), the Frankish Castle, and the windmill of Parikia. Parikia has vibrant dining and shopping scenes, with great waterfront views and several small beaches nearby. It definitely feels busier here, but I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty the town was given that Naoussa usually gets the spotlight.

Naoussa (Naousa)

Naoussa is a picturesque fishing village on the northern coast of Paros, known for its cosmopolitan vibe and stunning waterfront. It is arguably the prettiest town on the island, and has the best waterfront dining scenes.

During the day you can stroll down the cobblestone lanes lined with bougainvillea, but Naoussa truly comes alive after sunset. Many of the famous waterfront restaurants will book up so make sure to make reservations ahead of time. Visit the Venetian Castle or the fortress – most of it is submerged in water, but you can still visit the watchtower with gun holes by a path connected to the mainland.

Lefkes

Lefkes is a serene, traditional mountain village nestled in the hills of Paros, offering breathtaking views of the island’s landscapes. Its cobblestone streets and whitewashed houses are adorned with blooming bougainvillea, creating a postcard-perfect setting. Things to see include the Agia Triada Church, and there are small shops, cafes, tavernas to sit back and relax at. This village is the starting point of the ancient Byzantine Road, a trail that connects Lefkes and Prodromos and onto Marpissa (the towns mentioned below). The trail is a downward hike from Lefkes, and is about 3.5 km to Prodromos. You can always take the bus back up from Prodromos, or even Marpissa.

Prodromos

Prodromos is a small, quiet village in Paros, known for its charming, traditional whitewashed Cycladic buildings and churches. Its entrance features a stone archway, leading to narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses and vibrant flowers.

This village is tiny and it doesn’t take much time to walk around it, but I was obsessed! It’s one of my favorites in this Paros travel guide.

Marpissa

Marpissa is another picturesque village on a hill overlooking the eastern coast of Paros, with well-preserved Cycladic architecture. Wander through its narrow streets to discover beautiful churches like Agios Dimitrios and the Folklore Museum. The nearby monastery of Agios Antonios, perched on a hill, offers stunning panoramic views.

I’ve seen the pink door house on Instagram and it is really cute in person. We met the owner – she didn’t mind us taking photos at her door, and she had a box outside the door labeled “Paros Cats” which is funds used to help take care of the many cats on the island which I loved!

Piso Livadi

Piso Livadi is a charming seaside village on the eastern coast of Paros, known for its relaxed vibe and scenic harbor. This small fishing village is home to excellent seafood tavernas and offers easy access to nearby beaches like Logaras and Kalogeros. We had a lovely meal here at one of the waterfront restaurants called Ouzeri Halaris.

WHERE TO EAT IN PAROS:

Where to eat in Paros:

Bountaraki – a local taverna with authentic and incredible food. They do not accept reservations so expect a queue.

Sigi Ikthios – a classic Greek taverna on the Naoussa harbor. It’s noisy, overcrowded, like most of the restaurants on the main dining square of Naoussa, and this is exactly what we wanted! It’s truly a vibe here in the evenings.

Daverona – an elegant, upscale dining tucked away in the alleys of Naoussa.

Notos – restaurant in Naoussa by the waters, with great service and delicious seafood.

Come back – a relaxed cafe with good light bites and cocktails right on the beach, and at night time a bar.

Nonna Crema – delicious gelato for after meals.

Pita Frank – souvlaki and gyros at affordable prices for a fun, casual eats.

Allas Souvlaki and more – another casual gyros spot we loved in Naoussa.

Ouzeri Halaris – a waterfront restaurant at Piso Livadi serving amazing seafood and Greek cuisine.

Markakis – another great option at Piso Livadi with seaside dining.

Moraitis Winery – a famous wine producer in Paros, with their wines served all over the Cyclades. You can do wine tastings here.
