The Hotel
Capelongue is a boutique luxury property located just above the hilltop village of Bonnieux in the Luberon region of Provence.
It was formerly known as Le Domaine de Capelongue until the Beaumier hotel group acquired the property in September 2020 and began a two year renovation. During this transformation, the team collaborated with the French architecture studio Jaune to reinterpret the traditional Provençal countryside aesthetic in a refined and contemporary way.
Today, Capelongue is part of the Beaumier collection, a group of thoughtfully designed hotels that emphasize local heritage and natural landscapes. This was my first stay at a property by the Beaumier group, and I’ve become a fan of their hotels. They have properties in the French Riviera, French and Swiss Alps, as well as Ibiza, and I would be eager to check them out on a future trip.
The property of Capelongue feels like a small Provençal hamlet with stone buildings, quiet courtyards, fragrant gardens, and wide open valley views. The atmosphere is calm, romantic, and intimate, making it a beautiful retreat for those looking to slow down, reconnect with nature, and embrace the essence of countryside living in Provence.
Location
Capelongue is located just outside of Bonnieux, one of the prettiest villages in the Luberon.
It is a quiet countryside setting, surrounded by open views, vineyards, and olive groves. Bonnieux sits roughly between Gordes and Roussillon, making it an ideal base for exploring nearby hilltop towns and scenic drives.
Nearby distances:
Bonnieux Village Center: about 5 minutes by car, or 20 minutes walking.
Gordes: about 25 minutes
Roussillon: about 20 minutes
Lourmarin: about 25 minutes
Avignon TGV Station: about 1 hour 10 minutes
Capelongue is an ideal base if you plan to explore the Luberon region and want a calm retreat rather than a busy town center. Staying in the countryside allows you to fully experience the gentle pace of Provence and I highly encourage you to embrace the art of slow living here.

The Room
There are 57 rooms and suites at Capelongue, all designed in a warm and refined Provençal vibes.
I loved that the rooms are located in rustic stone buildings, so it kind of feels like you’re entering a home rather than a hotel room.
We were in the Terrace Deluxe room, which felt like a peaceful countryside retreat.
Inside, the room has a serene and welcoming atmosphere, with minimalist Provençal design, natural textures, soft neutral tones, and elegant decor. It was incredibly cozy and I instantly fell in love.
Our room was 27 square meters, or about 290 square feet, which felt comfortable for the two of us. I especially appreciated having a small table in the room, since we love to enjoy late night snacks and wine in our space when traveling.
The private outdoor terrace was one of the highlights, complete with a seating area perfect for slow mornings with coffee or relaxing at sunset. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of natural light, modern fixtures, and amenities from Grown Alchemist. Free Wi-Fi and a mini bar were also provided.
On the way to our room, the friendly staff showed us the Pigeonnier Suite, the property’s signature suite designed as a circular dovecote style duplex. There are also other duplex suites and family suites, perfect for those traveling with children.
Dining
Dining here is kind of a big deal. The meal I had at Capelongue was my favorite in all of Provence, and it truly captures the flavors and warmth of the region. Even if you are not staying at the hotel, I highly recommend making a reservation for a meal.
There are two restaurants:
La Bergerie
On our first night of arriving at the hotel, we dined at the Restaurant La Bergerie, and I was blown away.
The setting is beautiful, with an open terrace that looks toward the village of Bonnieux and the surrounding countryside. The menu focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and the main dishes are cooked over a wood-fire oven in an open kitchen. The flavors are delightful, and incredibly well executed. The dining room felt inviting, with little touches like colorful pottery and kitchen utensils used as decor.
Breakfast is also served at La Bergerie. The spread includes fresh pastries, eggs, jams, a cereal and fruit bar, and other seasonal items. Everything tasted incredibly fresh.

The setting at La Bergerie is just as beautiful in the morning as it is at dinner, with soft sunlight and wide open countryside views.
La Bastide
La Bastide is the Michelin starred gastronomic restaurant on property, led by Chef Noël Bérard. Although we did not dine here on this trip, it has an excellent reputation for creative Provençal cuisine and a refined tasting menu experience. I would absolutely plan to return to Capelongue specifically to enjoy a meal here on a future visit.
Capelongue Bar
The bar is open from 4:30 pm to midnight.
Pools at Capelongue
Not only is Capelongue in a beautiful location, it boasts really well maintained, beautiful grounds.
There are 2 outdoor pools at Capelongue.
The first outdoor pool is a 25 meter long lap pool, with relaxing lounge chairs.
The other swimming pool sits on a terrace that overlooks a lavender field and the valley, with picture-perfect surrounding gardens and stone pathways.
There is pool service during the day with refreshing cocktails and snacks. I loved lounging at the pool area in the late afternoon.
Spa & Fitness
There is a full service spa as well as a Roman bath, cold bath, hammam, and a relaxation room. There are 3 treatment rooms.
A fitness room is available with Technogym and Therabody equipments, and training coaches.

Nearby Villages to Explore
Bonnieux – Check out the market day at Bonnieux, held every Friday from 8 am to 1:30 pm. The village is 15-20 minutes by walking, but while going downhill from the hotel is easy, the way back is an uphill climb so if you’re not comfortable walking 20 minutes uphill, take your car.
Roussillon – Known for its striking red and ochre cliffs, colorful village lanes, and warm, earthy charm
Gordes – Hilltop village with sweeping valley views, stone houses, and one of the most iconic panoramas in Provence. Read my guide here.
Lourmarin – The Beaumier group also owns a hotel here called Le Moulin. We ate lunch at their on-site restaurant Bacheto when we visited Lourmarin, and it was great. While I can’t speak to what the rooms are like here, the common areas including the lobby, and the restaurants were also beautifully done in the calming, Provencal vibes with neutral colors with pops of yellow and ochre red.
Each of these villages offers cobblestone streets, small shops, outdoor cafés, and scenic viewpoints.
Final thoughts
Capelongue is a beautiful choice for travelers who want to experience Provence in a calm and romantic way.
The hotel did an amazing job of blending modern amenities with the traditional charm of Provence, creating a stay that truly feels connected to the region. From the aesthetics of the rooms to the breathtaking views of the Luberon valley and the village of Bonnieux, to the memorable dining experiences, Capelongue left a lasting impression. It is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave, and I already find myself dreaming of returning.
Disclosure: We were hosted by Capelongue for this stay, but all opinions are my own. This truly is my favorite hotel in the Luberon!
